[text_output]Understanding how these fin characteristics can change the performance of your board is an important consideration when working out which fins are best for you. Each of the following fin characteristics are clearly listed on each fin page, allowing you to evaluate the impact that a fin design would have on your surfing. All fins are classified by the following characteristics; Base, Depth, Area, Sweep and Foil.[/text_output]

[image src=”4991″ alt=”” href=”” title=”” info_content=”” lightbox_caption=”” id=”” class=”” style=””][text_output]BASE
The Base is the distance between the leading and trailing edge of the bottom of the fin.[/text_output]

[image src=”4992″ alt=”” href=”” title=”” info_content=”” lightbox_caption=”” id=”” class=”” style=””][text_output]EDGES[/text_output][text_output]Leading Edge is the entry of the fin where the water first attack the surface.
Sharper Leading edge will be faster with more direct drive and softer/rounder one will make it looser and add more forgiveness.[/text_output][text_output]Trailing Edge is the back of the fin.[/text_output]

[image src=”4995″ alt=”” href=”” title=”” info_content=”” lightbox_caption=”” id=”” class=”” style=””][text_output]DEPTH
Depth is the length of the fin. The deeper the fin the more hold, but can lead to drag as well. The shorter the fin the less drag, but can lead to loosing track and hold of your board. A good fin is a combination of depth, width and profile section according to wave or wind conditions.[/text_output]

[image src=”4993″ alt=”” href=”” title=”” info_content=”” lightbox_caption=”” id=”” class=”” style=””][text_output]AREA
Area is the total surface area of the fin.[/text_output]

[image src=”4997″ alt=”” href=”” title=”” info_content=”” lightbox_caption=”” id=”” class=”” style=””][text_output]RAKE
Rake is the angle measuring how far the outline of the fin is curved backwards; also referred to as sweep. This angle has a direct influence on pivot. Fins with more rake produce a longer turning arc, less rake offers a tighter turning arc.

The Rake angle of the fin measures the backwards sweep of the fin.  It is measured by drawing two lines from the middle of the base of the fin.  One line goes straight up, and one that goes parallel to the leading edge of the fin.  The angle in between these two lines is the Rake Angle.  Generally a fin with more rake back will have more maneuverability, and more rake forward will increase early planing and upwind performance. [/text_output]

The foil is the hydrodynamic profile applied to the fin. It can have a variety of thickness to achieve speed, lift and maneuverability[/text_output]

[image src=”5008″ alt=”” href=”” title=”” info_content=”” lightbox_caption=”” id=”” class=”” style=””][text_output]RTM Technology
Resin Transfer Molding uses a Polyester or Epoxy resin to saturate a fiber preform/precut placed in a closed mold. This process is very versatile and allows us to manage the flexibility and torsion of the fin according to type of materials and placement of these in the mold. 100% Accuracy on the shape. Isolates the flex and twist of the fin from the foil. Lightest Weight[/text_output]

[image src=”5010″ alt=”” href=”” title=”” info_content=”” lightbox_caption=”” id=”” class=”” style=””][text_output]G10

GLASS EPOXY COMPOSITE LAMINATE MATERIAL also know as G10 is a thermosetting industrial fibre glass composite laminate. It consists of a continuous filament glass cloth material with an epoxy resin binder. Very easy to work with and incredibly strong, G10 allows us to R&D on fin outlines. The limitations with G10 is that the foil is paired with the flex, a thicker profile will make a stiffer fin, or a fin with the foil further back will decrease the twist and torsion of the fin. The other negative side of G10 is the heavier weight in comparison to molded fins, and the consistency, as even CNC foiled fin needs to be finished by hand.[/text_output]
